Briefer is a Chrome Extension that generates AI summaries of web pages and YouTube videos. Briefer has no backend server. No data is ever sent to Briefer or collected by Briefer.
When you trigger a summary, Briefer reads the text content of the current page locally inside your browser tab using Chrome's scripting API. This content is sent directly from your browser to Google Gemini to generate the summary. It is never routed through or stored by Briefer.
For YouTube videos and DeepLearning.AI courses, Briefer fetches the publicly available transcript directly from within your browser tab and sends it to Google Gemini. No video data is uploaded to Briefer.
All AI calls are made directly from your browser to Google Gemini. Briefer does not proxy or intercept these calls. Your data is governed by Google's privacy policy:
Your Gemini API key is stored locally in Chrome's encrypted extension storage (chrome.storage.sync). It is never sent to Briefer or any third party other than Google Gemini.
Generated summaries are saved locally in chrome.storage.local on your own device. This data never leaves your browser and is not accessible to Briefer or any third party.
Briefer does not use any analytics SDK, crash reporter, advertising network, or telemetry of any kind.
Briefer is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
